Canadian National Para Alpine in Kimberley

On behalf of the Province of B.C., I would like to welcome the athletes, coaches, officials and spectators to the Canadian Para National Championships, March 14th – March 1th, in Kimberley.

The success of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games solidified B.C.’s reputation as an exceptional sport event host. With support from the Province, the Hosting BC program assists sport event organizers to maintain this profile and enhance their hosting skills and experiences.

Hosting sport events provides a significant economic boost to a host community, builds the volunteer base, and supports the sport development pathway.

I would like to thank the organizers of the Canadian Para National Championships, sponsors, volunteers and coaches for all of the hard work they have put into this event. I am confident that the city of Kimberley will benefit from the many economic, sport and social legacies this event will leave behind.

I wish the best of luck to all the athletes for a successful competition.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Cadieux

Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development

Russian Paralympic team: “Our only goal is to win Olympic gold.”

Prior leaving Moscow for Canada the Russian Paralympic Team had an outstanding kick off ceremony. There is a lot of pressure on this team of athletes after leading the 2006 Turino Payalympics with the highest metal count of any country.

The Team arrived in Kimberley, BC on Friday, Feb. 19 where they will train prior leaving for Whistler on March 6th. This extremely talented team has already been training for the last 3 days at the Kimberley Alpine Resort.

The Team has been spotted off the hill cheering on the Dynamiters, enjoying the town shops and even jogging the streets of Kimberley.

Bootleg Sled Dog Race

Scheduled for Feb 21 & 22 the event raised over $18,000 last year for the East Kootenay Friends of Children charity. They  feature 6-dog 6-mile Open and Purebred classes, 4-dog 4-mile Open and Purebred classes, 2-dog 4-mile Skijoring and a 2-dog 2-mile Junior class. The Trail Status page will allow you to keep up-to-date on trail conditions and the Registered page will keep you abreast of mushers who have registered for the races.
